Hi, :)
We have been using autocom for some time (not sure which one - but the bike to bike one (Derm and I are on F650 GS'S :D ) and we are finding that at times the speakers don't work :( . We can hear ourselves so we know its not the mic or the ear pieces - but occassionally (and as happened yesterday) Dermot could hear me fine but all I got was i.......ab.....o........ie nothing but odd bits!! :spitfire

Can anyone give me some hints? The batteries were all fully charged both in the radios and the boxes. Hmm!! :nenau

looking forward to hearing some thoughts,
Moo

As you can hear yourself the vox seems to be working ok. Have you tried breaking and remaking the leads between the Autocom and the radio's? Or swapping the autocoms over to see if the problem transfers, in which case I'd suspect the leads and then the battery.

Can't be more specific as my Autocom doesn't link into a radio :o

It could be the the speaker/mic loom which you squeeze inside your helmet.

A while back, Autocom had a poor quality batch of these and people had problems with speakers cutting out etc.

If your hearing yourself fine on the sideband though, it gets a bit more complicated and you need to start looking closely at your radio and its connections. The first thing I would do is to try to get it bike powered as I believe the majority of radio problems come down to the battery.

Could you try to break down the problem by using the radios as hand helds without the Autocom mic and speakers?

I would also recommend a call/visit to Autocom themselves - its not that far up the M40 and they are very helpful.

Cheers,

Mike

I had a similar problem caused by the press-to-transmit button contacts being a bit iffy. If you are using PTT rather than VOX I would reccommend trying that avenue.

What radios are you using? I had loads of trouble, just as you describe with my Motorolla radio/ autocom set up. More specifically with the curly radio to autocom leads breaking down. After going through about four new leads over a 12 month period, I've changed over to a Kenwood radio and have had no trouble since. As suggested above, I would also take a look at the PTT button. These can give up quite easily, particularly after riding in the rain.

Autocom

I had the same problem. Resolved by two methods. One: the VOX setting had moved. Two: I removed the boom from the headset by disconnecting gthe red plug from the headset ....sprayed in some WD40 (tiny bit) and reconnected. Try that it might help

'Allo

about to go on the ride for the Region 8 bit - and realised I hadn't thanked everyone who had responded. The one who knows how to deal with "wires" (me hubby) has read your responses and thanks you. Its nice to have different thoughts on an issue. Have tried a couple things --we'll see what happens!

have a good week and see some of you at the EM Doo!!

Batteries

Hi, Dermot and I used the autocom very successfully on the PWR ....the only thing we have found tho' is that the battereis REALLY have to be good quality to get the boost needed to give a good signal. It became abit expensive to keep buying for the whole ride (1430 in all :D It was FUN!!) so used for the run and gave up after that relying on hand signals. Worked just as well in some cases :D

I like the system and it is great for when Rob is on the back (it means he can listen to music and chat to mum or dad (whomever he is on the back with);
