Having just puchased an AUTOCOM SPA set up ready for a forthcoming European trip, just wondering where is the best place to install the Vox box on my 2002 R1150GS?

No bike-to-bike, just rider to pillion and phone/music set-up required at this stage.

I'm thinking under the tank or maybe in the toolbox area. Any advice gratfully accepted.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know how big yours is (oooer missus) but my autocom pro7 sport (probably bigger than yours, 'cos it's old tech) is mounted on a plate that goes onto the two screws that hold the OBD plug on top of the air box.

The plate was made by Rugged Roads and fits the gap perfectly, giving you a 4 inch square (roughly) plate mounted at 45 degrees to the horizontal, and just behind the battery so it's easy to connect up.

£13.56 plus delivery........bloody bargain really, even if it is just a simple plate....it's just perfect for the job and they deserve the money just for coming up with the idea IMO :beerjug:

EDIT......as you can see, there is also enough room for a couple of relays or a fuse block there as well :)

Thanks Fanum!!:beerjug: That looks just the job. I've got the bike booked in with D&R Motorcycles in Hereford next Tuesday for the wiring-in. I think I'll print off this pic for their info ... I could then fit the Vox box to the plate later on. The SPA box is the same length but about half the width of the Pro7 by the looks of it.

The Autocom SPA unit is a lot longer than the Active-PLUS.

Epilogue ... The SPA unit does indeed fit the plate, albeit end-ways , althought the plate needs bending back ever-so-slightly to accomodate it. All the control knobs are accessible. SPA secured to the plate with strong Velcro.

Thanks Fanum:beerjug:

Incidentally, Riders of Cardiff quoted me £200 to install the equipment. Instead I put £10 worth of fuel into the tank and had a very pleasant ride to Hereford, where Derek at D&R carried out the same work for £40. Took 2 hours, during which I visited Hereford Cathedral and comsumed a bacon butty and numerous mugs of tea.

Riders are the modern equivalent of Dick Turpin :mcgun
