Evening folks - Was over in Irleand last week and a problem arose with the Autocomm Super 300 rig that I have. For some reason it has developed a high pitched whistling so bad that the system is just not usable (felt like blood was pouring from my ears when it kicked in - even with ear plugs fitted!). Going to ring Autcomm this week if I get a chance, but has anyone else suffered something similar.

The unit is outside its warrenty period and thinking water may have got in I open the unit up to dry it out but it was bone dry inside. I have also removed all of the addtional connected to the Autocomm unit and then switched on and this made no difference at all. I Have an electrical power panel which has fittings for both the wutocome and the sat nav - removed the Sat nav from the panel and still the same noise - powered the autocomm directly from the battery and the same problem - which points me to towards a fault in the unit itself..

The unit has worked fine ever since I have had it just this problem last week - from the west coast of ireland to Shreswbury is a long way without music!

Rgds

Thats odd - mine did exactly the same thing a few days ago.

After unplugging, switching things off etc, it turned out that the socket for the pillion lead was covered in mud, salt, grit, you name it off of the road. Wiped it off and its been hunky dory all weekend.

I think the salt may have caused a short, making the loud feedback noise. Might not have had it before all these years as this winter has been s(n)ow bad with loads of salt chucked on the roads.

Hope its as easy for you too :thumb

Cheers Mike - the pillion fitting is caked in crud - will have a look tomorrow now - did try and fit my lead to the pillion lead but to no avail.

Thanks

Fingers crossed for an easy fix.... I had whisting on my Autocom once. It turned out the rubber cover around the headphone plug had twisted around so that when the "arrows" lined up, the actual pins inside were wrongly connected. Never did any long-term damage, but took me a surprisingly long time to diadnose.

I took the unit apart again today and removed the pillion lead and the high pitched squeal stopped! Spoke to the good folks at Autocomm and they are kindly sending me a new lead through.

Cracking service from them.
