For those of you that have the Autocom system......where did you/is the best place to mount the controlbox on the 1150 and what is the best place to tap in for power?? Pics would be helpful if ya have them. :help

Instantly Removeable

Mine's in the tank bag, simple DIN plug on the nearside by the airbox for power supply.

:idea

I put mine on the air box under the seat, held on by 2 strips off velcro, i'ts been there 2 years and has'nt caused a problem. When its not in use I can tuck the leads up the side of the seat without having to take the seat off every time.
You may want to fit an on/off switch to it, I get strange nagging noises through mine above 110

I unscrewed the plug atop the airbox and moved it to the side and held with velcro, the autocom then fits on nicely with velcro with the unit hard wired into the rear light unit so that the Autocom only comes on with the lights.
I have run the leads to the nearside, Rider plug on air intake tube and pillion on rear plastic below the seat frame. Remember though that the longest lead goes to the rider!

Here's mine, with alarm fitting next to it.

thanks for the location ideas.. i have decided to move the diag plug and mount it on top of the filter box.........now for power i need some switched power and dont have a clue as to where to go for that....I have abs and the instruction says not to use the rear light as a source.......

I think you're confused between the brake light and rear light. The instructions state

"PLEASE NOTE if your bike has ABS braking and/or a brake light failure warning system you MUST consult
your bike supplier or manufacturer for approval before connecting to the brake light circuit. If connection to
the brake light circuit is not recommended, use some other ignition switched 12- volt supply, such as the rear tail
light live feed or any other recommended fused, switch ignition point."

i.e. your rear light is okay, brake light not okay

Have AutoCom system as well... and have found the best place is under the pillion seat, if you re-jig a few tools in the toolbox, it fits in nicely. I cut a slot out of the side of the toolbox and all the wires lead in and out. Un-do the tank positioning nuts, run the leads under same and out near the dash (mind you don't pinch anything when replacing tank)... works like a dream.

Obviously you can't hook up the electrics to the rear light like other bikes (ABS won't allow this)... so you've to break into the wiring. Contact AutoCom technical advice... they've been asked this question by hundreds of BMW owners and have a detailed FAQ sheet prep'd. I e-mailed them, and had an answer back in less then an hour.

The other option is use the disposable battery add-on. You do incur some costs, but you can also remove the controller box in a few minutes if necessary. I use mine quite a lot, and haven't found the batteries disappear very quickly. Put it this way, the CD / Mini-disk / radio you plug into it will require much more battery changes than the AutoCom system.

Best of luck with it... makes riding a pleasure, not shouting back and forth to your pillion.. and music? Takes the edge of those long rides.

thanks for the ideas on the Autocom install........i completed it a few weeks back and mounted on the air filter box top and powered it off the tail light........not the brake light.....i used a double spade connector at the light and did not have to cut into the harness....no problems with the unit so far.... the intercom with my wife on the back is excellent......i am using a sony md player with a wired remote....also have the cell phone connector for the nokia...seems to be a difference in volume between talking on a land line connection and a cell phone on the same network my cell is on....it damn near blows my eardrums apart!! volume control on the cell has no control over the speaker volume..........
