Need some help, have just purchased a Streetpilot III and would like to use it with Autoroute 2001. It gives me the GPSoption, but does not accept there is a GPS attached to my PC. GPS works ok with EayGPS and GPUtility...

Any ideas would be appriciated.

Cheers

I may be the interface type selected on your GPS, by default its set to Garmin. If you go to the GPS setup mode then to 'Interface' and select NMEA it will probably work.

To install a GPS receiver

Insert the Setup disc in your desktop computer's disc drive.
Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
In the Folders list, right-click your computer's disc drive, and then click Install GPS.
Follow the steps in the Installation Wizard.

To configure a GPS receiver
On the Tools menu in Autoroute, point to GPS, and then click Configure GPS Receiver.
Select a COM port from the list, and click Next.
Click OK.

well no luck......

tried the two suggestions but made no difference, will keep digging and see what happens. Do have another question, those of you who have been using the SPIII for a while, how have you found it in the wet / cold weather. Any problems?

Cheers

I think that 2001 came with the old 16 bit GPS driver that never really worked properly on anything more advanced that Win3.11. Have a try with a newer version of Autoroute.

One problem I have with it is that it only updates about once every 15 seconds which is a pain in town.

Yes. It seems to work slower. Seems like the processor slows down.

autoroute

Quite a few GPS units didn't work with autoroute 2001, despite the feature being in the product, even Microsoft gave up. and rectified this in Autoroute 2003.

I'm not sure why you want it to work in Autoroute??? it's not that clever to be honest. I know Mapsource ver 5.03 is quirky, but time spent getting to learn it is well worth while. Have you got all the very latest updates from the Garmin website???

I've been out in some pretty horrendous downpours and had no problems with it. although I remove the batteries when it's on the bike. as the back cover is NOT waterproof.
