I have just loaded the maps i'll need for my trip down to the PICOs into my SP3 and when I switched on I saw the message "auto-routing not available on detailed Maps"..?? Is Autorouting only available on the base Map and not the more detailed Maps loaded in??? Am I missing something???

many thanks in advance

AndyT:confused:

Which mapset did you load ?
City Navigator
City Select
Metroguide
Topo
Bluecharts (I guess not)

If it was City Navigator or City Select then was the 'Include route calcuation data' box ticked ?

It sounds like you have made the routes on a different version of mapsource on your pc than the one loaded on your SP111 data card.
I am using Euro city nav v5, if when on the computer I choose v4 and make some routes and download them to SP111 and then try to run the routes I will get messages about not being able to auto route and do I want the routes recallculated?
Make sure the maps loaded on your SP111 are the same version as the ones you are working on on your pc.

hope your as confused as me :D :D

It could be you loaded the routes on to the data card, from memory I think waypoints and routes need to go in the SP3 via the serial cable.

Worth a try

I used European City Navigator Ver 5. I downloaded onto the card using the card programer that came with the package rather than a serial cable direct into the SP3. The message hasn't come up again but I'm still unsure of wether I'll get auto routing abroad.

I suppose I've still got the base Map in and can use that if all else fails.

thanks guys

maps

When selecting the tiles to load onto the datacard make sure that the autorouting tick box (just below the Mb add up tally on the maps tab at the bottom left of mapsource screen) is selected.
might be the problem - worth a try

Forgot how to do it on an SP3 but you can run a route in simulation mode. You have to turn off satellite navigation and switch to simulated mode. Select your route that you have saved and then see if it simulates following the route. Pity Pan Euro int here he would sort this easy

Could be that the coverage in Spain is not too good and therefore the autorouting detail is not on that portion of the mapping. It should work in France though.

I've tried to see the check box that you mention but cannot see it on the screen??

Gazza - It does autoroute in the simulation mode however I'm not sure what level of detail it will go to.

Time will tell I guess!!

many thanks and wish me luck.

Andy,
When you get back, make sure the mapsource version you're using is up to date. You should have at least v5.4. That may be the problem.

I think I know where I went wrong. When I saved my maps I should have checked the box to "include route calculation data" which I did not. I have since tried to reload the maps using this but I am getting an error message saying "Card cannot read. Please try re-writing it". Can anyone shed any light on what re-writing the card is!!! It sounds like reformatting the card but I don't think we can do that (or can we!!).

Any help appreciated.

regards

AndyT

PS. The SP3 worked a treat in Europe even without the fulll auto routing capabilities also it didn't like it in Spain so much with alot of teh small towns around the PICOs being missing???

Is this on the GPSR or on the PC?

I've had problems with one of my 128mb cards. It wouldn't load more than 900bytes. I contacted Garmin and they sent me a new on FOC.

Howard,
this message comes up on my PC when I try and either save to or from the card via the usb card programmer. It actually sounds like the card is corrupt as I was able to read from it at first but got this message during loading new maps with the route calculation data. I'll give Garmin a call on Monday and see what they recomend.

Thanks for all the help.

Save the mapping to the card and the routes and waypoints to the GPS via the serial cable. I would suggest wiping your card and reinstalling the maps only, then load the waypoints and routes to the GPS.
I believe there are some Garmin GPS’s that can read the card for routes and waypoints, but the Software is too dumb to recognise the SP111 and remove the option from the save menu.
