Ok here's the question,

1) Why is it that when I open avast, sometimes it appears on the pc screen as what I can only describe as looking like a car stereo, in the colour grey.

Other times it comes up in a different format, in blue?

Is this actuall

2) Also I am suffering from Trojan horses, adware & viruses:eek: that avast! identifies then recommends that I place in the virus chest, BUT then goes on to say that there was a problem doing this! When I scan again, they are found again?

3) every now & then, the pc decides to try to log on to some spyware site, but firefox then tells me that it could not connect?

I had thought that I might uninstall avast1 & reinstall to cure what I perceive? as problem No. 1

Suggestions & recommendations from computer literate people will be most welcome.

Make sure Avast has the latest updates then restart your PC and press F8 as it starts up, you'll get a list of options select the 'safe mode' option this will load windows but in a very basic format, now run Avast on all drives.

Sometimes virus and trojans can change or hide in the system after the PC has started up properly if you do the 'safe mode' thing it helps prevent the virus/trojan from doing this.

doing this should get rid of most of the nasty stuff, I have used Avast for a few years now and it's never failed me yet.

HTH

And if that doesn't work, disable System Restore, do a scan, and restart System Restore. As above, quite often the wee buggers get into the System Restore files which can't be accessed by anything.

Never had this or any similar problem using AVG free version ;)

On the above, I'd ditch Avast IIWY :)

I've been using Avast for years with no problems.

It's got a much more attractive system try icon than AVG. :D

only problem with avg , on mine anyway it load updates every day n takes a few minutes to download, givin ye time to make a cuppa.:augie
but wen ye just want to check yer emails its a pain:mad:

Had problems with AVG during an update, decided to dump it, but cannot entirely uninstall it!

Tried running the PC on SAFE START,as suggested earlier. avast! didn't pick up any faults, now running it in normal mode, to double check for faults.

Now the screen display is slightly offset!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do I get the full picture? It is about 6mm too far to the left & about 3mm too high. The crowbar wouldn't budge it!

Cured the offset screen view, used the monitor adjustment. I had assumed that farting about with the SAFE MODE had cocked something up!

safe mode will have changed the resolution, and your monitor was not smart enough to auto correct.
