Hi, I have an 08 GSA low miliage, lovely bike, out for a ride the other day and accelerated out of a bend in too high a gear (my error), the bike engine coped fine as it should but there was a terrible rattling noise from what I can only describe as under the engine or from the rear of the engine. Not sure if it is something to do with the drive, thought it was a loose centre stand or exhaust manifold but on checking everything seems ok. :(

After a full check I did try to replicate this and yes, same happened, any ideas please, should I be worried or is it just a tendancy with this bike.

Any 'positive' comments appreciated

Sam

Depending on the gear/revs and speed it's hardly surprising the old girl rattled a bit. Do the same in your car and you will get the same result.

I should think the noise you heard was the transmission and driveshaft trying to tear itself to pieces because of the lack of revs.

Keep the revs up chap and all will be well :thumb

'May' have been the engine 'pinking' like mad under high load and low revs. As has been said use the right gear for the job.:thumb

they all do that Sir... Basically our toys are tractors. They are put together in a shed somewhere in germany using happers and welders...

If you want perfection and smoothness, you ve bought the wrong thing mate. What you needs starts with an H, always had...

BM are just cooler, and equally able on the road, good pottering abt, long hours on the saddle.. like horses, though animals don't break down that often...

BM are a good compromise between Harley cool and Honda perfection. If Harley is 50 years behind Honda technologically, then the GS is bang on in the middle!

Thanks folks, 100% my fault, just not experienced that on other bikes and worried it was something more sinster, would guess everyone at some time has misjudged the severity of a bend and come out in too high a gear, was just caught out by resulting groan from bike.

Got to say you really do get a lot of feedback from this GSA, really unique riding experience coming from jap fours but love it, only bike that feels 'alive', plenty of feedback (especially if you get it wrong) yet forgiving and I always have a big smile on my face everytime I have been out on her. :)

yes, when can really hustle them around.. needs some getting used to as the front end behaves more indifferently under load, but you learn to trust it... and when you do you can get more out of them than any screaming 150bhp jap...

On real B roads, a good avg rider is probably faster on the tractor than on the sports jap...

They are quite a high compression lump and as such should be treated to some revs to allow the engine/drive train to do its work effectively :thumb2

BTW Have you checked your canbus fluid?

Shep
