B+Bs / Hotels in "the Middle"?

got a little trip to your lovely twisty tarmac rollercoasters in a couple of weeks.

we need a little local knowledge;

Can anyone recommend a good B+B / Hotel (reasonable £!) in "The Middle" of Wales...or more North West ish? (we're coming into Holyhead)

small group - 4,5 or 6 of us.
just for a Saturday night.

Rhyader is nice and central.

I think the Dirt bike scoundrels stayed in a hotel in the centre of town.

The Welsh National Rally's on the 12th May this year, so I'd avoid trying to stay anywhere near Castle Caereinion on the nights of the 11th and 12th May as the hotels will be pretty full.

What about the Hand Hotel in Llangollen?
It's being fully tested next weekend, is on the A5 and an easy run from Holyhead.
