Reliving bike trips whilst sat at my desk....
I am now getting ready to be back on the road. However, one thing that I am going to change is my back protector. I had placed a HG Hiprotec one inside the jacket liner. It did a great job, but is a little on the short side, coming down to the bottom of the rib cage. So now, under the advice of my physio, I'm going for the full back, from the top to tail bone.

Any recommendcations?

Specifically any thoughts on the Alpinestars "Bionic" or the BMW one (which my dad has and seems well made)

Cheers,

I've used the Dianese ones whilst skiing and snowboarding for many years and have them installed in my biking jackets. Fallen over (whilst skiing /boarding) many many times, they are excellent bits of kit.

I think the HG hiprotec protectors look terrible.. :( i purchased an HG Master IV jacket a while back, the quality of the protection was awful.

I'd agree about the HG - shouldn't be allowed as the base of the spine is left with no protection at all yet is probably the most exposed.

However, lucky for me the jacket I have has a big rear pocket at the bottom so I've fitted foam inside this which should make the difference.

A full length one with a hard outer and foam inner I reckon is best - not good for touring though + its an extra thing to keep taking off and putting on.

I'd go for a full length one that could be fitted to the jacket

I had an alpinestars protector wich I always used to wear under my leathers on the rice rocket. Top bit of kit and very comfy due to plenty of adjustment(for me anyway):thumb2

Second that.Dainese saved my back from a 40mph crash...wouldn't use anything else now:thumb
