Back rest

Here it is.

I think the "sticky-up" bit is fetishware from a Soho shop!

Backrest bolster for top box, mounting kit: 71 60 7 688 877.

Got mine from the dealer - was around 50 quid if I remember right...only problem is when you take the top box and put it down; it actually sits on the pads, so you can't leave it on the pavement/ground...

> I assume the pad just sticks on with glue? Could you mount it with sticky backed velcro or something ...?

It is really an easy job to fit, comes with 4 screws top cushion mounts to the black plastic edge protector which is removed to do the fitting and the bottom cushion just fits into place and then is also screwed in with 2 screws from the bottom. It is a BMW part so it is designed to fit. There are two holes you need to drill in the plastic piece for the top cushion but there are two little markers that are screaming at you saying "drill here !"

I put some black silicon in with the screws just to hold them in place.

10min job and worth the price.

As nadeem however says, don't put the box down on a rough surface.

My dealer is adamant that the part numbers given in this and the other thread don't do anything for him. He also says that no back rest is listed for that bike. This is so bloody frustrating.

I tried Sytners in Nottingham and quoted 71 60 7 688 877 and he said he could get one by Friday. I relayed this to my local dealer and hey presto, he found it.
Thanks for the help.

Dinger, the confusion at the dealer is probably a result of BMW forgetting to put the back rest on the current release of the EPC software. I'm sure they'll include it in the next update but glad to see you've got sorted out in the meantime while the slight faux pas is corrected :)
