had new valves ,one side. new fuel distribution unit. does it after a bit of a thrash when easing of throtle. bmw have had it in 3 times with no joy. suggestions please.
My 1150 backfires like a gatling gun sometimes when rolling off the throttle. Seems to be a thing with big twins, 'cos my previous Firestorm did it also.
My Adv backfires on the over-run (typically in the 5k RPM range) since I replaced the cat with a Y piece. I'm pretty sure it's as a result of a poor seal between the can & the Y piece.
I'd be concerned if the bike backfired with standard pipes, cans, cat etc - none of the boxers I've owned or ridden have done that, so I'd query the idea of it being a trait of large twins...
Air leaks in the exhaust system are a classic reason or backfiring. I'm assuming, therefore, that your dealer has checked for this. Perhaps this is a foolish assumption
Before I sold it, my 1999 R1100GS always backfired on overrun with a trailing throttle. It did this consistently from new with no mods like exhaust etc.
I need to get mine to stop backfiring post Y piece conversion (probably the seal). I ride a lot of rural roads hence there are nags about. Apart from what it might do to the rider, I don't want half a ton of unnerved horseflesh anywhere near me or my bike.
