Backfiring 650

Got an issue with my Aprilia Pegaso 650. It has th same motor as the 650GS

Started backfiring intermittently last week and then this morning it wold hardly run due to the same problem.

Took it for MOT (it passed) but refused to start and hasn`t started since. Put a new HT lead, cap and spark plug in to no avail.

Any ideas what it may be?

the f650 site, if the engine is the same it may be of help.

my guess is a split carb intake rubber

had the same thing with an old 650 myself,changed a split carb rubber made no diff eventually traced to duff regulator rectifier under seat,see if puting lights on full changes fault slightly,good luck

You could always paint it yellow, you know it makes sense....

could be the charging as the reg /rect has been known to commit hari kari on these,
for future ref, the engines has differend heads (aprilia/bmw)
bm,s have more mid range, pegaso,s top end, (so they say)
