Had the Remus Y piece fitted by a local bike garage. All the riding benefits realised, as identified by you guys, but it does backfire a lot !

Suspect it may be the joints aren't sealed properly? More gasket paste needed?

Any suggestions? It scares the shine out of me under bridges!

Got mine done at the Beemer dealer and it's perfect, no backfiring at all.
Take it back and get them to slop the old gasket paste on properly!!

did mine sunday - i get ONE backfire! every single time on run-down, 1800 RPM, not 0, 2, 3, or 10 but ONE explosion! wierd. does that mean i left ONE whole in the adhesive?!

Had mine done at the main dealer and it backfires ,spits and blows out flames...i now just carry marshmellows.

I had this problem when I first fitted a 'Y' piece, but removing it all and use exhaust paste seemed to make things much quieter. Used to bang once every time I rolled off the throttle, now it only does it very occasionally. I think it was Firegum I used, but not positive about that.

Hope that helps

If you are going to reseal it yourself try bathroom sealant.
Used it on last bike it works a treat , but you must be carefull to wipe off any lose sealant when running the engine for the first time.

if you have fitted a y-peice with the standard can they backfire lijke buggery on the over-run, it's all to do with a slug in the exhaust, basically a section of slow moving air that causes a vacuum & sucks air from the cylinder, try fitting a road legal remus can & see what happens

some do, some don't

top man Pat Keenan of Mobitec fitted my Y piece to the standard can, took a bit of time doing it but it only gives an occasional, and very tasteful, backfire.
So, what does that prove? damned if I know.

same again

I had the same experience - lots of backfires after first fitting. The fit between the header pipes and the Y-piece seems tight enough, but Y-piece to end can joint had gaps. Removed end can, slapped exhaust sealant on (Gum Gum I think), now much better but still get occasional pop which I quite like, actually!

Am I missing out

I have the Remus and Y piece and all I get is a small 'pop' in the first 5 mins when the engine is cold.

I have the k&n and Techlusion fitted, with the lambda removed, not sure if that is relevant.

Go into search, type; y piece installaion and/or backfires and the info is all there.

I've taken the Y piece off my Adv asit backfiredall the time, I've got the stock Can fitted , I dont think it had a very good seal between Y piece adn can (soot stains) and I didnt think it made much diff to perf. HOWEVER, I just had a day on a 1150Rockster with Y piece and Remus Ti can and it was a revelation. Much more grunt ,mine felt decidedly flat when I got it back. Also it only backfired once so I'm now tempted into refitting the Y piece with a Remus as I suspect and easier seal can be achieved with that combo.
PS the Bim dealer who owned the rockster said the mod is now ok (and doesnt need a chip) as Schniztner? now import them ? just dont quote me.
