Hi all

I hope this is the right section to post this in?

I have noticed on several occasions that my 1200GS backfires every now and again, when I'm slowing down / engine breaking. It isn't huge loud explosive bangs (like The Trotters 3 wheeler van) more like, "pop pop pop" backfiring . . .do you know what I mean?

Is this something to be concerned about? my GS has done about 1600 miles now. I'm due to do a long trip with a pillion early June, so want to know whether or not I should get a BMW dealer to check it out before hand??

I look forward to your answers.

Many thanks

Shirley :D

No.

Excesive backfiring can be caused by an air leak twixt exhaust and silencer (have you replaced your silencer recently?), but generally all GSs do it to some extent.

Enjoy your trip.

Mine pops like mad after I shoved on a BOS silencer, I love it sounds great.

I had a rotary Norton, you could knock the kill switch off briefly, the flames and bangs were spectacular, especially at night. When we were kids, eh.
