Backrest

The backrest on the Vario top box is not that comfortable. I have the top box where the rear seat was and its ok, just.
But over 400 dollars plus VAT and import duty? Not sure I'm that uncomfortable.

You could fit a Givi case with integral back rest fro less than thatAmerican made job. The Givi plate can be set to put the back rest in a comfortable position.

The GSA top case is fine for comfort. Maybe you can go that way with used parts.

Also consider that the rest needs to be set back a bit of the pillion uses a back protector. TBH my solution would be to minimise costs on the back rest and spend the remaining cash on a HitAir airbag vest that wont take space when not needed.

Andy at extreme stainless would almost certainly be able to make a rack and back rest to suit the bike.

He makes exhaust system but has all sorts of pipe bending and welding equipment. He made silencer link pipes for my last bike

Ive just had a quick look on the Givi website. They make back rests for some bikes and might have one for the GS or one that could be adapted to suit the GS.

Just get the BMW soft bag to go in place of the topbox. Very comfy according to Claire.
