Can anyone recommend a reliable backup method? We have a pc with windows 7 on it and we are looking to back up general documents and all the pictures my wife takes.

The general stuff is .doc, .xls, .pdf and the pictures a mix of RAW and .jpg so quite big file sizes.

Currently I have a few USB external hard discs but nothing off site. Are there any places to back up externally particularly the pictures which is free?

Thanks

Tom

5GB online storage free from Sugarsync with automated synchronisation if you want.

Dropbox will give you 1GB free.

(the sugarsync link above is a referral link so I get a few extra MB if someone takes up the offer)

Try Google accounts - 1gb free photo and doc storage. 20gb = $5 p.a.. Brilliant and works for me. All photos including scanned old ones stored there.

You can upload docs too.

I just backup to a portable drive and keep it safe and secure at work. The chances of both being burnt/flooded/burgled at the same time should be quite slim.
