I feel the time has come to replace the bag of rust that I call a tool kit with something up to date. I want a nice range of sockets and general hand tools, pliers, cutters etc. are halfords / B & Q ok or better off going to machine mart or people like that?? don't mind spending reasonable amount but not in the need for snap on type prices!! cheers

Teng tools are good but I also rate Kennedy's professional stuff as sold by cromwell tools. HERE
I don't have any of their ratchets as I already had facom and teng before I heard of them. The spanners last well and are well finished as are the few sockets I've bought.
Buy a good tool kit and it'll last years, buy cheapo cack and the sockets will crack and the spanners will slip in no time/at a critical time.
PS stay away from machine mart.

Halfords Professional series are good,, and with a good warranty.

I'll second that, the warranty is lifetime, and their profesional 3/8ths tork sockets are the only ones i've used ( that includes snap on) that don't break after a couple of months -

Plus some useful information.

Halfords have "trade" cards which gets you a very substantial discount ( varies from item to item, an instance. i bought a set of £14 wiper blade for about £3 ) on tools.

All you need show when you apply for a trade card is a business card :thumb :augie

ok thanks all. looks like a visit to halfords tomorrow with my business card(with wet ink):thumb
