I'm thinking of ordering a tankcover and matching bag (Athena).. has anybody got one, any issues with these covers?

I've had one every bike I have had an they have been excellent but on thee GS I have a few problems with it:-

1. The harness does dot enclose the front of the tank completely and road crap gets inside it so it has to be removed to clean under it regularly something I did not need to do on the other bikes.

2. Try as I did I could not get the filler and badge openings to all line up at the same time.

3. The badge clear panels are almost constantly misted with condensation, you can cut them out but more road dirt gets in.

Having said thet it is an excellent way to mount a tank bag or map holder.

If you pay a little extra they'll make you one without the plastic roundels - saw one last year, looked good & saves the alignment pfaff.

Mike:)

I really rate these - had them on the last 3 bikes

Had one since I bought the bike and can't fault it other than having to occasionally take it off to clean the front of the tank.

I did put mucho layers of good polish (Autoglym) on the tank before fitting, cut off the more rearward of the two cross frame/undertank straps - didn't need it) and also made sure that there was a strip of duck tape on the timing cover to stop any chaffing - just me being paranoid.

Mine lines up OK, must've been lucky

The folks at baglux were very helpful - on the GS you can actually put the road style bag (is it the Alpha?) rather than the off-road one cos the tanks so fecking big - gives you more capacity and space in the panniers for lots of wine/dope/Phillipino housemaids

Thanks everybody, Rogers comments give me concern, I'll get in touch with them and see if they have any comments on this.

Good idea Mike, after all.. everybody knows it's a BM!

They tell me they have the Athena in stock and in a matching colour, that and a 50L topbox would save me buying panniers, for a while at least.

My VFR riding mate has had one on for 4 years without taking it off, when he did his tank was like new, trouble is I don't know who made it, apart from that it was an Italian company.

I think the one you show pictured is for the Adventure, n'est pas ?

Just an observation.

Yes it is, which is what I'm going to get...

Bloody 'ell Bawdy !

It's Froggie. It means "isn't it ?".

Non parlez vous Franglais ?

PS: Good luck with the Adventure. I was going to get one but instead I'm waiting for the 2004 GS 1150 which I think will be like a 2003 GS with all the nice bits added at the factory gate from what I hear.

No mate I don't speak Frog, but your Greek probably isn't that good either:D

"Nice Bits" ?? From what I've read here and else where;

The foglamps are crap
Hepco & Becker crash bars are the best
The Ally Panniers have cheap plastic hinges... The top box is too bloody small anyway!

What else will they bolt on for free?
Alarm.. Now that is good..
Heated grips.. yep
Big Tank.. yep
Dunno if it's really worth waiting for... lifes too short!
:beerjug: Cheers anyway
