Bar end mirrors on a 1150?

Has anyone had success fitting bar-end mirrors to a 1150GS with the handguards still in place? Not the mirrors that stick out, the ones that would sit more inboard just above the handguards

I believe there is a captive nut in the handlebar end that the guard and balance weight bolts in to.
That mirror fitting needs a hollow tube type handlebar.
