If I was to replace my handlebars for, say, renthal, is there any way I can get the fixings out and back into the new handlebars that take the long bar end weight bolts?
Thx.

Or more to the point, is there any way of using the bar end weights and leave my old handlebars alone?

I shortened my bar end weights in order to shorten the handlebars, 20mm either side. Back then there were threads on here describing how to use a captive nut in your replacement bars. Something like those fixings you can get for putting bolts into concrete?

rawl bolts. Never would have thought of those. Use them at work lol.

Something to watch out for, the grips are screwed to the bars. You'll need to drill and tap holes into your shiny new Renthals ;)

I was glad I shortened my end-weights but it wasn't easy. I also had to shorten the bolts that hold the end-weights to the bars these are massive (somewhat over-engineered) and extend the thread onto the unthreaded part of the bolt (M8 if I recall correctly). Turns out I needed that O-level in metalwork after all :D

Maybe try a search of this forum using Renthal and bars ....

May one ask why? What advantage did you attain by shortening the end-weights?

Because this shortens the bars. The stock end-weights have 30-40mm length inside the grips so effectively extend the bars by that much.

Can't see how length inside the grips extends the over all width of the bars..... But fair enough..

I'm surprised that nobody seems to make specific aftermarket bars for the GS. You'd think there would be a market for them.
