Barbastro

Hi just doing a little planning for my Pyrenees trip on the 5th August, part of my planned route will be from Barbastro to Foix.Looking on google maps I have several options either the A138 or the N230 there isn't much difference in mileage,has anyone travelled these routes and which one is the best,things to consider are that I will have the wife on the back of the GS and more than likely the kitchen sink,

Foix will please your wife if she likes sauntering around a really old village peeping into the shops and drinking coffee......very nice town centre indeed. All the roads are good...can't go wrong really.

I think the N230 route would be a bit easier, better surfaced and faster but perhaps more traffic and slightly less smiles per mile

Echo the replies above, if you have time head East from Foix along the D29 & D20 to Gorges de St George and D117 to Gorge de Galamus it's well worth it, pretty scenery, interesting and quiet roads and plenty of small villages to stop for a coffee or lunch, one of my favourite routes from my trip last year

Heres what you can expect on the French side if you take the A138 through the Bielsa Tunnel. I have been up and down that section of road a fair few times now and love it. If you fancy a bit of adventure on the way, stop off in St Lary-Soulan and go to the mountain sports shop where you can book a trip up to the top of the mountain in the cablecar and fly back down on a parachute.

Can't remember all the routes, as it was a few years ago now, but remember BARBASTRO, long story short, OK for a nights stop over, but we ended up there for three nights, Arggh, far too long, live and learn.

Was Zig-Zagging across the Pyrenees, French side to Spanish side, etc, but you always knew where you had stopped as a beer was half the price in Spain..Enjoy your trip, love the Pyrenees..
