I bought some Helly hansen artic survival thermals way back in 1977, in Haugesund one february, waiting for the ship to have a new crankshaft fitted. It was FREEZING. They have lasted me all these years, beautiflly warm, but bulky. 2012 for the Bering Sea and Bering Strait expedition I got a couple of sets of Helly Hansen modern base layers that mimmick merino but wear a lot harder - very fine but incredibly warm and insulating, plus they work when wet, which for immersion survival is very important. They are still going strong but I saw the ZeroFit ones at the NEC - oh my word. They are fantastic. You don't have to be active for them to work either. I got the Heatrub Ultimate and a lighter one, the Heatrub Move. The Ultimate for out on the water and exposed use, the standard Heatrub Move is plenty for on the motorbike.
On the motorbike, absolutely ideal.
On the boat, they are brilliant.
Sat on the riverbank, fishing - toasty warm.

I am sure you will have other ideas of where they could be of benefit. No need to layer up either, just the base layer and something over the top, rugger shirt works well, then your jacket for whatever you're doing. I am stunned by their performance, these cold days they came into their own, the cost will be recouped by the saving on heating alone. Turn the thermostat down and wear the base layer and stay warm without burning fossils :D They are affordably priced too.

Excellent products and very helpful people, too.

PS 'Toasty' is something said by Brownies.

They are incredibly good and do exactly what they claim

Not as long lasting as a top notch merino like Icebreaker but then again they are a third of the price
Neither are they as resistant to getting stinky as a merino

They do size up on the small size

I fear Icebreaker have gone the way of BMW, a great reputation built on years of quality, now being used to sell substandard products at premium prices. I'll not be buying any more.

UK company, been around for years, good thermals. https://subzero.co.uk/

I just bought some Isobaa 160 & 320 gsm tops and leggings from sports pursuit. I'm well impressed with the quality and price.

That's good to hear - my order arrives tomorrow! :)
I even bought the hat for £14. They had crap nylon ones in mountain warehouse reduced for more than that.

I have the zerofit top base layer, but cannot wear it on its own. I need a thin top underneath otherwise I get all itchy and have a red rash underneath.

Uniqlo, Heattech range. Had bought some for winter cycling and its surprisingly warm. I think the material is rather like Zerofit.
At £25 for a Uniqlo top you cant go wrong.

Thr Uniqlo Airism range of polo, T-shirts and boxers has also been good in this recent hot weather
I bought some Heattech base layers from the Uniqlo place at the back of I think Kings Cross station. Ok but not as warm as the zero fit range.
