Hello All,

Myself and my partner are heading down to Lake Garda for out first motorbike trip. I'm desperate to do some of the Alps, so going through the Stelvio Pass on the way down, staying at Lake Garda for 5 nights then heading back across the Col de l'Iseran.

We have the occasional hotel booked to make it a little easier on my partner but still looking for a good campsite near Basel/Zurich and also a good campsite near Pass Bormio.

Anyone done this route? Any places to see, advice, campsites to explore?

Any info anyone could give would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Richard

basel and zurich are quite a distance apart, easily 1 - 1:30 hrs ride on a good day so depends where you enter the country.

I live in basel and Zurich and not really aware of decent campsites in the immediate local area - i know some in the Vosges hills which is about 45 mins away in france, and some in the black forset near titisee and the swiss alternatives are some sites around luzern and brienz.

there are loads more but these are ones i have visited myself.

have you checked out bnb.ch? it would save a lot of hassle just for 1 night.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. How far are Luzern and Brienz? Looking to experience a little bit of Switzerland so would be nice to stay there for at least one night. Will have a look the at b and b link you have sent, certainly worth exploring options!

Any Swiss campsites you would recommend in particular?

Luzerna and Brienz are about 2hrs from basel on the highway.

As you want to do some of the alps brienz is prob the closest to the passes - but luzern is only about 30 mins away. For Brienz we stayed at a bnb, and looked at the most easterly campsite on the lake - it looked nice and clean and right on the lake, but cant remember the name tho - brienz tourist office is your best best i reckon.

but be aware abrienz is a little town.. if u are after nightlife then go 4 luzern, its also very nice.

I'm not a camping person. In tents at least :)

However, as you are going to be near Bormio you could whizz over the pass into Livigno which is a tax free haven within Italy. Petrol was 1 euro a litre when I was there a little while back.

Seemed to be a few campsites in use in the valley and the tourist info website confirms this http://www.livigno.com/en/ospitalita/alloggiare/camping/index.htm and there's a weblink to the one in the picture below.

and a link to google streetview
Note there's another campsite & a restaurant a few metres down the road.
