After giving the bike a bit of a wash I thought I would take out the nuts/bolts holding the bash plate just to copper grease them as I have heard that they can get corroded and shear when trying to remove them. (Proactive - me)!!:)
Only to find that the crafty bu**ers have fixed it on with 3 different types of fixing - 2 nuts - no problem and then.... what the hell are those other two things and what kind of tool do I need to get them off? Any help greatly appreciated.

torx bits

They may look funny but i took mine off using an ordinary socket set, i think one was a 7mm, worked for me anyway.

I think BMW found a box of samples from every fastener company in the world and put them on the GS. Personally I wouldn't try and remove them without the proper tools and they are expensive to buy. You need a male and female torx set. If your gonna do the thing do the thing right (so says my da everytime I butcher something with vice grips and a hammer)

Thanks for the tips. Looks like another trip to the spanner shop then. I thought of bodging a spanner using the back end of a torx bolt but I will be doing my own servicing in time so may as well get the right stuff.:(
