Battery & Battery mounting

Having fitted fogs and spots on the bike and the onset of cold weather it appears that my battery is not holding its charge. I went to change the battery and it is tiny, about 1 1/2" shorter than what is supposed to be a std GS 1150 bty. My bike is a 1999 R1150GS the battery carrier has a false floor welded in to take the short battery and looks original the battery is a BMW item

My questions are:-

Has the battery changed since 1999?

Can the carrier be modified or a different one fitted to take the bigger battery?

i seem to remember someone saying that only abs and heated grips as standard bikes have the bigger battery fitted.

can you cut the battery box floor out ? Drill out the spot welds ?

Bikes with no heated grips have smaller batteries/carriers,like motomartin says you either get your grinder out or give motorworks a call,my friend has a bike with no heated grips but needed a new carrier as the acid spilt out and basically reduced it to dust,he was sent a secondhand deeper carrier and it fitted perfect all the mounting points X4 are the same.This is pig of a job as all throttle body cables are connected to it underneath,can't be 100% sure as it was about a year ago when I replaced it,but I think you have to dissconnect one of the throttle body cables to slide the whole cable pully system out of the bottom of the battery box.Don't forget to give your pully wheel a good clean and bit of light grease and oil your cables while you have it pieces as it's not often looked at if at all on a servive.But you would do that no doubt.Hope this makes sense.Andy

Easy one that (famous last words) just fit a hawker battery, loads smaller than the wet ones that come as standard' and they're bomb proof(ish). About the same price as well.
