Battery charger /optimizer

2018 GS Exclusive TFT dash , left for 2 months battery totally flat , re charged with battery charger at work (car mechanic) and got it back to full . Not sure if The Sat nav stayed on or not
First does anybody know amp allowance , when tested got 0.06 m/amp drain reading (on cars 0.02 considered aceptable limit)
Looking at optimiser any feed back a. do you recommend using one or not
b. what make , is it worth BMW make or optimal can 4 or any other ????

I've got an Optimate 4 and put it direct to the battery. Can put it in the canbus but I always have a usb adapter in there for my phone so find it easier direct to battery.

I've used the XS0.8 for years and never had a problem. Best value for money out there. Im not sure id be using a "car" charger on a bike battery though, im thinking the charge rate would be too much for it. Thats why i use the smaller 0.8 as opposed to the 5.0. Just my thoughts.

Just checked and the MXS 5 is on their site under motorcycle filter. Should be fine? Also it has a picture of a motorbike on the charger. Looks like you can change between car, bike and snowmobile charging.

Yes you can with a ctek. The OP said he charged the bike battery with a car charger i think. That would possibly damage a bike battery. Taken another look he said at work, but didn’t specify what charger he used.
Incidentally i bought my Ctek from an outlet in Spain. It only took about 5 days to arrive and was £30 odd quid cheaper than i could source here. The only thing was you need an adaptor from 3 to 2 pin either that or change the plug.

I use an Oximiser, straight to the battery. I have 3 all running on different bikes. No problems at all.

Ideally a charger shouldn't deliver more than 10% of the AH rating of the battery. E.g. use a 1A charger on an 11AH battery. This is to ensure you don't damage the battery..

Optimate 4 for me, left connected all the time. I read on the Yuasa website that the modern bike batteries last longer if you keep them fully charged most of the time. As above connected straight to the battery via the fused pigtail that comes with it which I also use to power my heated vest and airman pump.

Drain of 0.06 milliamps or 0.06 Amps?
The first is insignificant, the second is huge.

I have the BMW charger and leave my bike hooked up all the time when not in use. Battery is the original one and still good and strong after 3 1/2 years. You should get between 3 and 5 years on most decent batteries. Anything much beyond 5 years old I always considered pushing my luck and most of my bike batteries haven't lasted much beyond this before the rate of charge loss increased.

Second one would be my choice as the first does not apperar to have a fly lead that can be fitted to bike as a permanent connection. Looks to be pretty good value too.
