Morning, mine worked fine then one day fully discharged the battery. BMW gave me one of their chargers as a goodwill gesture and reported that that opto 4 should only be used on a fly lead. Just saying.
I'd just like to find a reliable and simple Li charger that I can clip on to the battery. I have no need to plug it into the powerlet or involve the CanBus in any way. My Motorrad dealer is selling the Optimate 4 for the 1300, but there's just something about Optimate and all the flashy labelling that's turning me off.

You don't HAVE to use the canbus, think all of the chargers still have crocodile clips to connect straight to a battery. You have to change the settings on the charger to tell it it's not using canbus.

I have used an optimate 4 on 2 1200GS' 1 1250GS and now my 1250RS connected by the supplied flying fused SAE lead without any issues what so ever. As @pbbanks says yiu just have to set it up for either canbus or non canbus and then plug it in and forget it. I quite like the lihjt display on mine as it confirmed my 1250GS was being topped up far more often then my previous 1200s which was due to the infamous datatool stealth charger they fitted as standard in 2020 and that the issue had gone away and normal service was restored once I disconnected the offending black box
