The battery in my 1250 GS Adventure 40Yr Anniversary needs replacing. The original fitment is an Exide BMW part number 61219457224. Im trying to find the exide equivalent but different suppliers list differnet batteries.

Tayna and Exide advise its an Exide AGM12-12M, but theres no stock available. Other suppliers advise AGM12-12 or ETX14-BS but which is it?

The techincal specs seem very similar, I'm thinking it's maybe different terminals.

12v
12ah (or near)
200CCA ( or more)

Yuasa YTX14BS
Yuasa YTX14 H BS (240CCA)
Exide ETX14BS

Yuasa GYZ16H is good but expensive.

Tayna is the choice of many.
Halfords have local stores.
As always its personal choice.

I think the two Exide batteries are identical now. The different codes are a legacy from when the battery with the BS suffix was bottle supplied i.e. it was dry until you or the retailer added the acid. Note the red strip which was sealed for life once the acid had been added. The 12-12 has always been factory sealed for life. With changes in legislation, all AGM batteries tend to be factory sealed now. Hence the 12-12 has always been a little dearer due to this added process in the factory. Seems Exide has kept both part numbers current and the price differential even though they are now essentially the same product. The difference being £10 in price.
I guess there are some fastidious owners who will always want the OE battery with the 12-12 designation so there is a market for them.

I fitted a Yuasa YTX14H-BS to my R1250GS when the OEM Exide battery gave up, with 240CCA gives better cold starts and spins over a bit quicker at start up.

I also need a new battery, good luck finding stock at present it’s like everyone has dragged their bikes from sheds and realised their batteries are flat.

I’ve gone for a Hybrid Motobatt from Motorworks, not cheap at £151 delivered but I’m sick of my 1250 not starting when hot.

Starting power 350 amps @ 25 c / 220 amps @ 0 c

Lithium starter power yet capable of cold weather, sustained accessory loads, normal charging rates, no special trickle charging needed.

For info the BS suffix means bottle supplied

I believe the rules have changed to prevent acid being sold in plastic bottles to be filled by the customer

The last battery I bought was for my 1200 GS, a Yuasa YTX14 which came prefilled from the factory with a very recent manufacturing date, cost 67 euros

Just swapped out my starter relay and fitted a Motobatt MHTX16 hybrid battery. Some light cable oxidation, cleaned up and protected.

New battery is smaller, needing one of the two foam packers provided for a snug fit in the battery box.

The bike now repeatedly bursts into life without hesitation with each press of the button. 13.7 volts at the battery at rest, and shows fully charged immediately on my Ctek battery tender. 350 Amps ready to go from a 2.5 Kg battery.

Absolutely delighted.

All this about starting aggro. Do the cables need upgrading? This was an issue on the Multistrada and a fellow made a replacement/upgrade cable kit that sorted it. Believe he was called exact start.
Do we need something similar?

The starter cables do seem pretty thin gauge for the power they handle.
