With a view to all the chat about batteries, positive and negative (lol) I decided to try out one of these indicators as to the batteries health or not.
The idea that a visual is always there at a glance seemed good to me, though the thought of having a visual of impending doom on the move might not suit all folks.
Anyway it wasn't much money, was delivered as soon as I hit the button, and was so easy to fit, I thought I would try one.
I just fabricated a small mounting out of black plastic angle as it's so easy to work with drilling a 14mm hole for the indicator to fit snuggly into and a small hole to go on the end of an 8mm or so bolt already there securing it with another washer and nut. There was plenty of spare thread showing to use.
It's not too bright and does all the flashing/goes solid green it says it should. Haven't seen a red light and really don't want to as it won't be the best of news.
Anyway a few pics of the plastic angle the fitting instructions etc and my choice of location.uploadfromtaptalk1455905190859.jpguploadfromtaptalk1455905205343.jpguploadfromtaptalk1455905213839.jpguploadfromtaptalk1455905222506.jpg

I have a low cost small diameter digital voltmeter. Mine is fitted through a plate under the main clocks but could just as easily by attached inside the screen frame bracket.

So let me see if I get this straight. Green is good, red is bad? or is red a sign of almost bad? If its a straight bad, then that tells me the same as when I turn the key and I don't get it started....What am I missing?

You dont turn the key when on the move....or do you. Perhaps the pic was unclear regarding colour sequence.

You do get some cocky people on here !:blast

I am with Bendy on this one, Waterproof digital voltmeter less than £3 delivered from china ( ebay).
Wired into the sat nav point so stays on for a minute or so and shows that the canbus has shut down.
Also with BMW charger which keeps the canbus alive, so it will monitor the charging voltage.
The toggle switch was to switch it off if too bright at night. ( never had to switch it off)
Small red light in the same plate is a fiber optic from the led on the Innovv C3 camera controller mounted under the seat so can see the camera status.

Do you have a picture?

I have a "clocks" anti theft plate that slides down the screen frame and screws to the top of the hoop. I made it as long as possible below the clocks without tangling with the steering & cables, etc. A meter like this (below) will then go neatly in the corner close to the screen frame. There is not enough space to fit centrally. This gauge is smaller than I have so might even fit on/through a top half only plate. The standard 2" car dashboard gauges are much too big.

Stick on gauges are the simplest to fit, but they are all low costs and worth a punt.

My gauges are not water proof but the boards inside are on edge, so I drilled a 2mm hole in the bottom to let any water out. Its been there a few months including this very wet winter. So far no problems. I also have an oil pressure gauge though that's been less successful with a dim and flashing display. WIP I guess.
