Hi Guys - Took the bike to my local BMW agent for its first annual service (53 weeks) and said how over the last month or so starting was a problem if I left the bike more than 7 days (garaged)- I pointed out the manual claims that a charger is not needed unless the bike is left in excess of 4 weeks - I also asked if this had anything to do with a rumoured recall for charging software.. Anyway our guy says batteries are only good for a year and I should buy new - and at 4k miles I haven't done enough - and with Nav & Grips & Alarm what do I expect - and he has never heard about any recall. I stuck to my guns and said if the Battery was goosed I wanted one under warranty but when I collected it had the same battery and a story about having given the bike a software upgrade (which by the look on his face was sh1te)- today 2 days later the bike barely started - How do I prove the battery is faulty warranty wise?

you shouldn't be having this problem with the dealer - it has a TWO year warranty which covers things such as the battery - many folk in the UK have had their battery replaced under warranty...I suggest you cal BMW Motorrad Customer services in your country...they'll also be able to advise on recalls...the Uk has had a recall for a software update to cure draining battery problems.

Hey Searanger,

Sounds like your dealer needs a kick up the ar5e. I had my recall done at Prestige yesterday to sort the battery problem (mine was going flat despite using the BMW charger). After being flat I understand some batteries can't be rescued properly... they should just replace it under warranty!

Ciao
Rob
