Hi everyone

I need a little help! I know this might not be the best spot for tech talk but I thought I would give it a try. I need to get myself a new battery (sealed) so I just wondered if anyone has heard of Tanya batteries and if they were a good supplier, whether anyone's had experience of Westco Motorcycle Batteries and thirdly, has anyone used another brand of sealed battery? The reason I was looking this one was because it was a bit cheaper than the odessy battery. I popped the link on so you can have a look. Oh, I also have just realised that I don't think I've actually said what Das Wasp is - she's a f650gs - 2000 model.

Westco battery Dimensions(mm)
136 Long 82 Wide 162 High (incl.terminals) only thing I am seriously worried about is whether this will fit. My current battery is 134mm long, 78mm wide and 160 tall. (Believe it or not is probably the original as the previous and only other owner barely rode her)

Maybe I will pop this thread into the techi bit too.....

Adios amigos, Kristina

Hi Kristina, not heard of Tanya batteries. Are they some nasty cheap Chinese tat?.I doubt if it will fit anyway as its 4mm deeper than the OEM and battery trays are usually a tight fit.The OEM (Exide i think) aren't cheap but they do last.Try Motorworks or Sherlocks and see what they recommend.

Battery for F650 GS

Hi Kristina,
I`ve got the same battery in my F650 GS Dakar. Bought it about 18 months ago, it spins the starter with no problems.
It`s a tight fit but if you smear a little grease around the casing, if you need to remove it then it`ll be easier. You can get rid of the plastic overflow tube too. I remember I had to bend one of the connecting cables to fit, as in everything goes back under the strap. Though the battery will hardly move. No more fussing and wondering if it needs topping up. Though just make sure when you tighten up the screws and nut that it`s very tight and with a smear of petroleum jelly.

Ciao Dakarnoway

Have you read the technical FAQs on F650.com? There's a whole section on batteries which may help you but in all probability might make things worse. :blast

The link shows a WestCo battery, there is a lot of information here about fitting the WestCo battery ( remove plastic tray). There is also a lot of information about other laternatives and straight fits.

On the same site that you linked to, there is the Yuasa YB12AL-A lead acid battery for only £26.55, which is allegedly the same size as the OEM battery.

i got the hawker oddesey, it requires the touratech battery plate as it is much lower than standard one.

only change you have to do is take the battery tray out, drill 2 holes 6mm i think further back and bolt back together, this means get a better fit, some have gotten away with otu this but i find the battery pushes hard against the airbox and not good idea

hawker are dear but you get what pay for as they are the battery used in the rallye bikes

Kristina, I'll merge this thread with the other in the tech section for you so it reads as one thread.

This is the intro area for newbies.

The westco is probably the best option. It is tight to fit in but it goes. There is alot of give in the assembly.
