Noticed pics of GS's with a black beak extender thingy on. Assume this is off the Adventure. Have done a search and seen various posts on the subject but can anyone tell me if these can be retro-fitted to standard 1150GS's (and if so how and where from) and do they they make a blind bit of difference to fairing qualities or just look nice?

Fits right on. From BWM
Protects the beak but mostly look nice

I've got one on my standard 1150. Yes it fits easily, though you have to drill a couple of holes in the beak. It's purpose is to look butch, and protect the beak from scratches and other calamities.

It's available from your friendly local BMW dealer.

That was nice and easy. Any idea how much and if there's a cheaper option than my local friendly (but expensive) BWM dealer?

I have a feeling there is an item available from Touratech. However, if you think this might be cheaper, you might end up being a little disappointed.

True. TT seem to price everything on a par with BWM as many now poorer people on here will testify!

It's always worth checking out the price of BMW plastics before looking elsewhere (and before slagging them off?;)).

I think you'll find the cost of the Adv beak condom and bolts are in the (fairly reasonable) £30 range...

So it "protects" the beak but you have to drill a couple of holes in it. Not very protective then:rolleyes:
Is there a device for protecting the beak protector too?
Agreed though, it does look butch.

The guard was £17.88 +vat (a couple of years ago) Then you need the bolts, washers and nuts to fit it @ 0.12p/washer and nut and 0.18p for the bolts.

:beerjug:

Just a personal view but i think they dont look good without the larger tank.

Does Look Good

Have just bought and fitted one to my 1150 - cost 29.20 from Motorad and looks very nice indeed. Hade to drill 6 holes in beak but that's what needs to be done. Put a black headlamp grille and one of Bryn's badged oil cooler grilles on too. Worth doing as I can pretend I have a new bike now.

Update on this thread.

Bought all the bits from local BWM dealer last week for less than £30. Got a mate to hold various bits while I fitted it. Whole job took less than 10 mins and bike now looks far more butch!

(No pics but lots of pics on here of GS's with extension on - mine looks the same)

Where did you get the badged oil cooler grill? and how much? thanks.

I have now done a search, which I should have done in the first place:o and have found a contact.

The beak protector was from Touratech. I didn't need to drill any holes, it fitted as snuggly as a jimmy hat and used existing bolts and bolt holes (R12GS).
