Make sure your rider mode isn't set to Enduro. Cruise control will only work in Rain/Road/Dynamic.

On mine the thumb wheel has stopped working when pushed to the right it toggles through the menu ok if pushed left. I shall get it booked in next time I'm at the dealers.

I haven't dismantled a modern one but it feels like it uses the same type of push buttons for some of the functions.
Have you checked the microswitch on the clutch lever? If that tripped, the cruise control wouldn't work.
Got a whole new LHS switch gear fitted today under warranty. Happy days! Thank you for your suggestion and I shall keep that in mind if it happens again.
