It has been a really shit year for us as a family.

However we have decided to do a grand tour for Christmas, to get us through a difficult period.

Starting from Hampshire, we will drive North to visit my wife's sister and family in Edinburgh.

From there we will take the Stranraer to Belfast ferry around the 27th December (curiously, we could not get details of the Larne ferry at that time).

We hope to spend a day in Belfast before heading South to Kilkenny where my sister lives, and Dublin to see my mother.

So here is the question:

Any recommendations of reaonable hotels or good B&Bs near the centre of Belfast, for a family of four?

We'd like to see the City, hopefully having driven around the Antrim Coast. So any recommendations also of good places to see over the Christmas period would be appreciated.

Strangely enough, we found ourselves needing an answer to the same question yesterday afternoon. DavyF's lady wife recommended La Mon which is where we had a very pleasant stay and a fine dinner. Now, it obviously depends upon your budget.....

+1 from me - thats where we have our works xmas dinner and its a nice spot indeed

My bruv runs a private back-packers hostel in Belfast, near the centre and famous pubs etc, he can usually give families a room to themselves.

Malone lodge hotel is excellent. You will also get good internet deals for the europa hotel and Jurys

Thanks guys...I have booked us into Benedicts Hotel which gets good reviews and, while not cheap, is not badly priced in UK terms.
