I have a 2-up trip to Croatia starting next Sunday on-board a hired GS 1200. I'd never ridden one before but my Mrs and I chose this bike from the various options after doing a few test-rides.

Can anyone recommend the best set-up for powering and mounting my iPhone 6S on the bars? I don't mind spending some money on this as I'll sell it on after the trip, or keep it if I get bitten by the GS bad enough to buy one ;-)

This is what I have ordered

Power it from the bike via a suitable 12 to 5v converter or an external lithium 5-10 mAh power pack (my choice)

You should receive it before departure but you will also want a cheap stylus on a tether and another tether on the case for peace of mind

I have used this system for several thousand miles to good effect

btw the offline Pocket Earth app makes an excellent satNav

Ultimate Addon also do iPhone cases with the option of wiring direct to the battery, not cheap but a good piece of kit

It is a hire bike so I'm not sure I'll be able to wire to the battery. What kind of power socket does the bike have and where is it?

Thanks @Neavey - where is the powerlet socket? (I'm wondering how long a lightning cable I'll need)

On my 2016 GSA the socket is on the RHS of the instrument cluster

Thanks :-)

What is the best mapping app for the iPhone with inbuilt maps to work offline or areas with no mobile signal?

I've bought Co-Pilot for my holiday to the States next month. It allows you to add waypoints or drag the route to where you want it, so hopefully it'll guide me around the sights of Oregon and Northern California without a hitch :beerjug:
