Guzzi Californias are worth a look. Still enjoying mine - just as happy sitting at 50 as it is at 100. sounds superb as well.

I test rode a R1200C a few years ago and it was a great laugh, so I would go for one if I could find the right bike at the right price.

I like the Guzzi too but sub £5k will I be looking at an 'enthusiasts' bike???

Have to say I still like the looks of the Kwak Drifter :)

Mines a 2001 and cost £3k from our local Guzzi Dealer, full Guzzi service history, Brand new panniers and a load of after market parts. Check out Ebay 2k - 3K should get you a nice low mileage machine.

This ones just been sold on Ebay Cali on Ebay

I went to look at an 8 month old Guzzi Vintage with 2,500 miles on it for £5800 -> Cali Vintage

So many choices :drool

Cleaned my bike up today so that will be going up for sale shortly :)

That says it all, really :augie

If you were discussing big traillies, it'd be akin to saying "Don't bother with a KTM Adventure - it's not the real deal"

Al :)
Agreed.......but which one of the big trail bikes IS the real deal?
As far as the original topic, imo,Japanese customs are just a rip-off of everything Harley. Good bikes they may be, but imitation Harleys nonetheless, whereas the KTM is a great bike in it's own right.
Blackal,if you really,really wanted a '66 Bonneville or a Ducati 916,would you put up with a Kawasaki W650 or a Suzuki TL1000?

I was in a certain HD main dealership a few months ago discussing this very subject. The sales manager from the Buell side toldme that they gey loads of Jap cuisers part-exed for Harleys.

He also told me that "if you want a bike that breaks down regularly, needs constant cleaning and still rusts, then by a Harley, but if you want a riliable bike that goes forever, then buy aJap cruiser".

My mate has just bought a Suzuki Volusia 800 after riding British and Japanese sports bikes and sports tourers and he loves it!!!!!!!!!

But I still love riding Harleys!!!!!!!!

There's obviously a certain kudos that goes with the brand, but as a more 'mature' figured gentleman I look an idiot on a Sportster and financial realities rule out the bigger bikes for me.

If I had the money I'd probably go for a Victory since there is a dealer just up the road

well if you must , ive tryed one sometime back and boy was it fit , yamaha roadstar warrior they only did them for afew years and they were mental money here but they can be had for about 4-5 k
