Do any of you buy a regular P.C Mag ?
I have just started using 'Web User' , Quite good for an idiot like me!
What about the big Mags like PC Advisor. Just can't make my mind up on a pc so looking for a good Wright up in One

i like PCW the best, but i rarely buy any of them now.
usually just the same old shite month after month.

PC Pro is quite a good read, but I certainly don't buy it regularly.

Depends what you want it for really- if you're in the market for bits and bobs or a new machine, you won't find many more ads than in PC shopper but for info, there are mags for idiots, mags with internet bias and mags for those who know what PCI express 2 is.

TBO I reckon you'll get better advice by posting up your IT questions here than buying a magazine.

Only the guys who "think they" know about IT will reply and give good advice..

I have been working in computers since 1989 and know quite a bit of stuff, but I still get good answers off here for the stuff I don't know.

BTW anyone who thinks they know everything, generaly know nothing....

I might use that line in my signature...

I have been a subscriber to Personal Computer World (PCW) for years (1979!) although I'm not the complete saddo type who keeps every back copy. You would be lucky to find anything more than 2 back issues at home.

I'd go with that but you might find it a bit heavy going at first. I used to use "Which PC magazines do you read?" as an interview question for desktop PC support staff - if they read PCPro there was a fair bet they knew a bit more than sod all about computers in general.

The same applies to the Usenet group uk.rec.motorcycles

Many of the regulars in the group have many years experience in IT.

If you do not know what Usenet is then look at the FAQ www.ukrm.net/faq

I get PC Advisor and PC Pro regularly.

I've found the PC Advisor 'Best Buy' lists very good for comparing peripherals (and PCs too, I guess). As many of the same components are recommended by PC Pro, it strikes me that they must be a fairly sound buy.

One thing I have used for getting queries resolved in the PC Advisor website - registration required but free. It's amazing that you can get a response to any posted query often within minutes, and usually some very good advice at that.

Agreed, i have been helped many times on here.

I get Web User now and again , its simple stuff but useful most of the time, but now i feel its getting a bit to simplistic but its taught me like this forum quite a bit.

So i will be calling on you guys again;)
