best seat

ive got a gel seat, bought from a fellow tosser, and my arse thinks its the best hundred quid ive ever spent.

I can only compare the OE seat on my standard 1150 and the secondhand Sargent I bought from another customer at Cardiff Motorrad. I've been very impressed with the Sargent on my last 3 trips to the Alps. I'm not very tall and the Sargent doesn't cause any height problems. With the OE seat (after it was 36000 miles old) I was glad to get off for a stretch after 70 miles or so. Now, with the Sargent it's usually something else that makes me want to stop such as needing a drink, toilet or a rest in the shade when it's very hot.

What is the best replacement seat for a GS Adventure - gel or foam, Sargent seat or Wunderlich? Any other suggestions?

Let Tony Archer work his magic on it, it will come back looking standard (unless you specify otherwise) but will be all day comfortable:thumb2

I've lost count of how many times I've recommended this guy, plenty of other tossers on here will testify he does good work; http://www.tonyarcher.co.uk/

Perhaps I should have explained in more detail the first time? Not only do I suffer from numb-bum syndrome very quickly (which makes visits to the cinema, theatre, etc, a bit of a gamble - i.e. can I stay the course?), but also suffer at the very base of my spine if I am sat in one position too long. As it is, at my height, I wobble about on my GSA like a newly-bourne fawn and don't want to add to the height with a gel-seat.

So, no problem for you guys to help me with, right?

You need to think about weight distribution - I know many people with bad backs who ride bikes. Often they find a sports bike riding position is better for their back problem as more weight is taken on feet & wrists than on a bike like the R-GS.

Another modification I have done to my R1150GS is to fit a set of Migsel's lower footpegs. These have helped with my knee problem as my leg is a bit straighter. The other benefit noticed is less weight on my backside as the straighter leg position redistributes more weight through my feet and therefore less through my coccyx.

'Fraid I won't....no more or less uncomfortable than when the seat was un modded. Get your wallet out and kiss goodbye to 6 or 8 hundred quid and a sore a*se.
Corbin or Sgt.

its pretty bad though that you have to go to this expense. I regularly have 8 hours in the saddle and the GS is by far the most uncomfortable long ride bike i have ever had. The seat is very soft and initially you think its gonna be fine, but it must be sculpted wrongly or something as it wrecks after about 4 hours. i sometimes struggle to get off after a long trip. BMW should do something about it as its clearly a commn problem and aftermarket should be a choice not a necessity

+1 and +2 on the gsa seat is the worst bike seat on the planet, arches your pelvis and knock the sh*t out of your arse. love the bike but need to replace or mod.problem is as previous tossers have said, spend a fortune at your peril for something that may be worse or slightly better.I want to change mine but don't know what to do about it.:nenau

+1 for tony archer.
just this week i took both saddles from my 1200 GS to him. He slightly lowered
the front seat and fitted gel pad.On the rear seat he shaved off the sides fitted a hump at the front and fitted gel pad. Then he fitted new covers complete with red side stripes on both seats. Looks great (imho) . All for £200, not had chance to compare on a long run yet, but initial feel is better.
