when i am away like i have been for last few days, my bike doesn't have a garage to live in and get very bad frost over it and when i have to go and ride it at 6 am its a nightmare, any ideas? also ignition barrel seems to freze aswell but i usually heat my key slightly and insert it into ignition and keep doing that until barrel moves.

Just be careful on windy days that it doesn't pull the bike over. As for frost, it doesn't accumulate on windy days.....:thumb2

Put it in a heated garage and it should have thawed out by spring..... It is the longest night in a few days a sure sign of Summer round the corner:rolleyes:

Seriously though I think bike cover is the way to go and they are quite a good theft deterent too:thumb2

'piss all over it :augie

unless you're a girlie....

then get a kettle of warm water - test it with your elbow - maybe put somenice lavender oil in.

after dousing, dry with a nice fluffy towel

:D

LOL its normally in a garage but when over partners place bike is outside and last 2 days i have had to get up early and go to work and spend 30mins trying to de-ice the bike, bought my cover over to his so will what its like in morning as leaving at 5.45am for work.

I have the stormex and I cover the bike completely without paniers or topbox. Maybe it has different sizes and you got the wrong one. Also a bit of WD-40 in the ignition will see that it doesnt freeze up, another thing is to coat your key in vaseline before... uhum... inserting...

this might do it

I wouldn't bother to defrost it, your bum will soon melt the frost on the saddle and the and the rest doesn't much matter.

For the lock barrel wait until it's a relatively warm day and pour meths into the lock. It will mix with any water in the mechanism and hopefully flush it out completely. It will then evaporate to leave the lock internals dry.

You can get graphite lock lubricant from a locksmiths, it's a dry powder lubricant and is immune to freezing. If water persistently gets into the lock you may need to work out a simple cover for the lock area. I used to shove the disklock cover between the handlebars and the top yolk leaving the body of it over the lock to remind me about the disklock but it also kept the rain off the lock.

cheers for everyones help, i use my large stormex cover and fits with top box on and in a way is too big for it...lol i have also sprayed WD40 onto all switches etc as needed doing...

thanks everyone.
