I'm at the end of my tether with BT Openworld's alleged 8M broadband service. The network response times are abysmal - much worse than the old 2M response times. Almost reminds me of the dial-up days.

Before I throw my toys out of my pram and dump them, can anyone advise a decent 8 - 20M service in the Reading area? No ntl please!

Cheers,

Neil.

Pity, cos to my mind cable is the sensible way to go for speed, response times and reliability of service. Andrews and Arnold have a good rep otherwise, though they're quite pricey......you pays yer money and..... :)

Totally agree with the theory, but we had ntl cable TV and phones for 2 years - every horror story about their services are correct!

Back to my current problem-ette, it took 95 seconds for the network to repaint this screen for my Reply!

Are you sure it's the network and not some malignant crap in the 'puter ?

I had NTL when I lived in Reading; it always worked OK for me although I remember getting through to them when problems occurred was a bit dodgy (fortunately never had any major problems). Current provider (I live up North now) is now BT Business which I rate very highly; BT seem to take their business customers very seriously although at £30pm it could be considered expensive (no download limit though).
Don't know of other providers in Reading though, only BT and NTL. How about broadband through a mobile phone - is that a viable option for a main internet connection yet?

What's A Cable ???

Sitting with my feet up on couch. Laptop on my lap (where else)? Enjoying my first day surfing without a cable in sight. Yesterday bought a wireless card from some outfit who claim city-wide coverage. Speed is 1 Mbps. Absolutely F***ing brilliant.

Needless to say - he said needlessly - I'm not in dear old blighty today. BT et al - stuff 'em all.

I live in Woodley and we had the full package from NTL the TV was crap so we went back to SKY HD but kept the phones and the braodband its been very good. I wanted to swap to SKY broadband but my mates had a nightmare do im sticking with NTL(virgin).
