Just been up round the Peaks for a little blast.
Decided to go along a lane, if you go up Winnats pass from Castleton towards Sparrowpit its about halfway and off to the left next to a disused quarry site.
I only went about 1 mile uphill all the way until i came to the first gate, after that it looked a bit too muddy for road tyres and solo so turned back.
Where does it end up and is it a legal row? (its not Eldon lane by any chance is it, if so i found the other end after a little looking around Near Peak Forest)

the peak forest end in not for motor vehicle use but does get used by green laners etc but dont let the farmer catch you ,but if you carry on through peak forest over the cross roads towards " dove holes quarry" theyres a nice bit of off roading through the quarry back to the A6 at dove.

To your right is the old motocross track where I used to race back in the late 80,s. Motocross club used to be called Pennine & district MCC. Don't know if its still going though.
As far as I remember its private land, think its owned by Eldon Hill Quarries. If you go over the old track up the hill in the direction of Sparrow pit you will come across Eldon hole (an alleged bottomless pit ) so be carefull.:thumb2

Not so bottomless and quite a nice climb out in the summer, or was many years ago, last I heard it was soon to be lost to the quarrying activities unless it has had a preservation order slapped on it.

I've raced at Eldon Hill in the past, when we did "out of centre" AMCA events. Unfortunately we lost a friend there the last time we went, he had a heart attack (at 21 ) in the 2nd race. First race his parents had ever been to watch as well. :(
