Not-withstanding Alan's erudite and helpful contribution to the discussion....I'm sure he knows what he means...(and I'm sure next time we meet he'll finish off my malt(again!)), I'm glad I now know not to flick V's at astras...or BMW series 3's....or 5's....or vw's...or sigmas..... or pan-euro's....any others I should be wary of???.in case they contain rozzers....or firemen...or district nurses.....or wifies getting their messages. In the (very) unlikely event it had happened to me...you fuckers would never hear about it!!

Because I would keep quiet about the whole thing.

It's an arbitary number of miles per hour, assigned to stretches of road which cover the surface of the Earth. It's placed there in a lowest common denominator attempt to limit and control the speed at which people ride and drive so that there's some sort of balance between ensuring a reasonable flow of traffic and limiting the amount of damage to life and limb that will occur in the inevitable road traffic accidents. Such accidents are more often than not caused by the inattention and ineptitude of your average motorist.

Speed limits thus placed are best treated with a measure of disregard by those of us who are able to discern by ourselves an appropriate rate of progress for the conditions which includes the likelihood of there being members of the local constabulary, whether in liveried vehicles or otherwise, in the vicinity.

Long since gone. All Polis grounded and sold their Pans after a cop got killed a few years ago on a police spec.
Strathclyde are now buying Kawasaki GTR1400's I have been told to replace the older RT's
