hello all

sorry this is such a boring one, but, can anyone recommend a good/decent bike cover for my new gs1200.

im just in the process of getting an Almax chain and lock too. so maybe a cover that i can thread the chain through.

thanks in advance

Graeme

I have narrowed the choice down to two! But then again the choice in Ireland is a bit limited:)

The Lidl one is cheap and cheerful, weighs a ton and lasts about a year when the tie down points break off due to wind. You need cords or bungees also to secure it. It fits the GS with side panniers reasonably well.

The BMW one costa a fortune but is light and packable, has built in drawstrings and mine is still going strong three years later:thumb

I've got a Large-sized Motrax Deluxe bike cover, which fits my GSA just fine, including all panniers and wotsits.
Comes with an underbelly clip (which I don't use), and holes front and rear for locks/chains to pass through (which I do).

It's meant to be heatproof at the rear for exhausts etc, but the clearance is a bit borderline on the RHS of the bike between it and the header, so I normally leave it 30 mins before I cover the bike up.

Oxford Stormex (you'll need the large one if you want it to go all the way to the floor and cover the wheels...)

Lives up to it's name - mine's been kept the weather out through some fairly persistent precipitation, and the fleecy lining on the inside is heat proof so you can get away with covering it in a rush if the weather's on it's way in when you get home (I usually leave it to cool off for 20 mins though as I read somewhere that it's bad form to cover a hot bike!).

Only negative I've found is if you're bike gets pushed over by local ASBO hoodies while you're away, and your rocker cover cracks, then the oil absorbs very effectively into the lining and is a bugger to get clean... (I bought a new cover in the end...)

Can't fault the cover itself though!

i will only be using the cover while parked at home, and i'm very luck in that i can leave my bike parked in the court yard of the building, which is surrounded by the flats, and the entrance has a 3m high wall and a secure gate to get in through. so i dont need to worry so much about dickheads pushin it over. (I pitty the fool if i catch em at it!)

suppose i just need something that wont scratch and is decent quality, as i think its gona be outa the worst of the wind and rain because of the 4 story building its protected by.

what sort of price are the ones suggested? i have looked in a few of the local (islington, london) shops, £20-60 seems to be the price range.

cheers

Graeme

While on the subject... does anyone know of a good fiting dust cover for the GS12, I live in the tropics and my bike stays under a balcony so is out of the weather, I need something to keep dust and critters off it... cotton would be best. Able to fit with paniers and top box an advantage..

thanks.
