Just dragged the beast out of the garage to start her up (been away)
battery is dead, no shock there!
tried to jump start her but all I get is a weird knocking sound from the starter motor?
any ideas??

I thought the charge from the donor vehicle would be enough to start her up?

why would the starter clunk? I thought it would just do nothing

sorry to sound a bit bone, if it was a firearm I would be sorted, cars and bikes no!

Leave the donor attached and running for a little while before trying to start the bike. If your bike battery's totally drained, you'll need to get some juice into it before starting your bike.

How long did you leave it? The battery may not be able to recover if you've left it for too long - so that the battery goes completely flat. :(

Sounds like what happened to mine a few months ago. See THIS THREAD.

I connected it to an Optimate and haven't had any problem since. It's still a mystery why the battery went dead though. :nenau

connect leads direct to starter, connecting to battery, tries to charge battery as well as trying to start the bike.

I don't know if it's still on your 1200 GSA Scottykm, but on the 1150 GSA there is a shiny metal "knob" on the left near the foot level plug (it's got a rubber cap on it) which I understand is just for jump starting it, as it does connect directly to the starter motor ie it by-passes the battery.

TBH I didn't have a clue what it was for until Slimbo and PW pointed it out to me :o so I'm sure others on here don't know about it either. Actually I've never used it, but would like to know what connects to it just in case I ever need to. I was going to start a thread about it, but I suppose this is as good a place as any. :D
