Bike Meet 2009, near Maldon 9 August

Hi folks

The Bike Meet is this Sunday, and me and my GS will be (sort of) polished and parked with the pipe'n'slippers club. It would be nice to see a few Tossers drop by and say hi to me and Sarah. Beards are optional but obviously helpful in order to gain entry, but ladies are exempt from this.. :rob

The museum is based at a former steam pumping station, with one of the massive original pumps restored and working under compressed air. They have recently received a boiler to enable them to run on steam again soon. There is also a complete belt-driven workshop, a miniature railway and a lovely riverside setting.

If you are stuck for somewhere to ride to on Sunday it would be worth dropping in for a while to see what is happening and have a nice cup of tea in the tea rooms. :thumb2

If we get all our fettling, farkling (and crappy old housework :() done on Saturday, I'd say there's a fair chance me and mister badger will see you there...'specially if there a bit of sponge cake going in the tearooms, I just lurrve sponge :drool....!!!

I am going to a motorcycle rally at the new hall vineyard purleigh. I might pop in sunday on my way home.
 
It would be great to see you there. For those who do not know me, I am the fat bloke on the GS. Although that does seem to be a generic description of a GSER. :beerjug:

Hi Matt (I'm another fat GS'r!) went past the museum t'other day in the course of my work, looks interesting, what's the entry fee to the event, web site didn't seem to mention it, only ask as I've a prior engagement early that afternoon and probably only able to spend a couple of hours there, Hi John, what's the bike rally at the New hall vine yard, couldn't see anything about it on their web site? I believe the entry fee is £4 including the museum, with a ride on the miniature railway being another £1 if you so desire. It is worth a one-off visit just to see the wonderful old pump hall with the steam pump.

Having just been to the site, there looks to be loads of space for "individual entrants" to display their bikes. This means you get to park on the old cricket pitch at the site right iin the middle of things, and probably without paying a fee. You will need to check how long you will be expected to stay, though! Anyone who wants to stay for the day can arrive this evening, camp and have a bit of a piss-up. That suits Sarah and me just fine. :beer:

Apparently there may be some old Honda racers present tomorrow, and it would be good to hear them run.

One last thing. If anyone get there fairly early there is a B&B just along the road toward Maldon at the old mill house that does Brekkie for £5. I have no idea what it is like, but I will be leaving my tent bleary-eyed int he morning and heading over to find out.

I would go along, but no bike at the moment -sold the 1150 GSA, and the 100GS PD needs new gearbox bearing, so in bits right now. Keep seeing all these ride outs etc., and no bike ...:blast
Hope to get it back on the road asap.

bike show

Hi all, popped in on sunday pm, great little bike show although some leaving by the time we arrived, nice to bump into Cormick but didn't see anyone else!
Even managed to buy a Triumph garden chair (not for me you understand!)

I got there about 3pm and it was all winding down. I didn't see anyone I knew, but I saw some lovely bikes. The highlight for me was a black '75 Norton Commando 850. I had a poster of one on my wall when I was a kid.

I had a mooch around the museum too.
 
Hi folks,

I was there on the BMW club stand until around 3:30, and it is a shame I did not see anyone I recognised from here. The best time was certainly the morning, when hundreds of bikes streamed in to the field for hours. Well in fact the best time was the evening before, when we had a bbq and got hammered on beer, wine and even a bottle of Port (very BMW Club!). Sarah was worse for wear on Sunday and had to go home.:comfort

Maybe next year we could have a little pitch for Tossers to meet up...
