Bikesafe 2011

Anyone else booked in for the Gloucester course on 3rd and 10th July?

Did the 1st part of mine today, very good.

There's a Glos. resident on a F650GS, & a few K-Series BMW's, so a possible maybe !:nenau

Thanks for an excellent 1st day Martyn, I like the way you delivered the session even though you took the pish outta the Varesters and their ship :D

Looking forward to next weekends ride out, hope you have a big peice of paper to note down all my "inconsistancy's"

Just did the Avon & Somerset one this weekend, in Radstock :D

Superb - after 20 years riding, thought I knew a lot, and although I wasn't a bad rider, some simple tips have helped me a lot! :thumb2

Well recommended - as is teh Castle Coombe day on 4 June. That's going to be in FB this month, so anyone who wants to get an hours ride with a police officer, followed by a 20 min track session for £25 needs to sign up quickly!

Would be great to get a few tossers down there! :hapybnce:

There's bound to be quite a few turn up, but I should think I'll be the biggest Tosser there...

Er, think I should have put that differently! :D

Just to clarify a point.
Admission to the show is free.
Anyone who wants an on-road assessment, that's free.
There is a cost of £25 is you want the on-track experience, but you can't get "on-track" without an on-road assessment first.

Lothian and Borders Bikesafe!

Did my observed ride with Edinburgh District Advanced Motorcyclists at Peebles yesterday along with Lothian and Borders Police co-ordinating the event. The atmosphere was very informal, relaxed and the weather was very good. Turnout seemed good with few 'no shows' and a real mixture of bikers and bikes taking part.

Rode out along the mixed borders roads then stopped for a wee chat before following my 'observer' for some distance and then riding back again. Hopefully i've learned something from the ride. Most of the Observers were riding GSA's and even the Police guys had the odd GS or two when they weren't on their 'company' bikes.......!

Really enjoyed the ride and hopefully i'll be able to improve my riding style a bit more after the very helpful comments my Triumph Tiger riding observer made. After the 'Bikesafe' course i'm thinking about commiting myself to doing the IAM course which i've thought about for years. Work commitments on our farm have always been a bit of a stumbling block for me but with a bit of organisation I should be able to make the time.

I'd recommend the Bikesafe course to anyone regardless of how long they've been riding, got me thinking a bit more which can't be a bad thing......!

Many thanks to Martyn for a great day today. Cannot recommend the Gloucestershire course enough! Would highly recommend that you go and book on these courses - in all my years biking this has been the best value for money £20 ever spent!

Yep, thanks for doing this Martyn and Simon, also pass on the thanks to the Observers who came out today, it has been a very enjoyable experience and I will definately be letting my mates know how informative it has been.

After passing my test earlier this month, I need all the training and experience I can get so I've booked mine for Glos today on 12th & 19th June. Two days for just £20? Bargain! And you get to have a nose around in a fire station :-)

I read that BikeSafe is probably the best course for a newbie before starting on IAM or Rospa. Is that right?

I did Bikesafe in Cheltenham with Martyn H in the late 90s (he must be 100 by now :D). It's a good introduction to the Roadcraft way of riding and will help you decide if IAM/ROSPA is for you.

Personally, I didn't go on to do IAM or ROSPA but a number of my mates on the same course did.

Whatever you decide, Bikesafe is in itself a very worthwhile course.

Go for it Sean, I found it to be the best £20 i've spent in a long time. :thumb2

Were you part of a group that went off for a second Cotswold ride, after the course ?

I remember a particularly jocular group from Abergavenny area.:rob

Am I doing something wrong?

My local forces are all 50 quid or more, is it cos I is crap:rolleyes:

Each Force charges as they see fit. We basically offer the course at no charge, but the £20 covers the booking system at the national office & tea/coffee & lunch.

It's not just that each Force charges differently...

Derbyshire have a sliding scale depending on the weight of the rider.

Most riders get charged <£30. Tossers start at £50. Mine cost me £720...:jes
