I have just booked myself onto one of the Bikesafe days with Hertfordshire constabulary in July.

Get in early if you want to attend and do the whole assessed ride thing with the Police riders.

www.bikesafe.co.uk

If you are want to do it in Herts contact
Mr Ian Powell (Herts County Council) asap

If your not in herts just check out your county on bikesafe

Was at the Bikesafe annual show this weekend, held at Cheltenham Racecourse this year. Lots of stalls, burger vans, live bands, manufacturer displays, and of course, observed rideouts.

Went along with MMC, we both had an observed ride, and picked up some useful pointers.

Best of all, it was all FREE!!!! (well, apart from the sausage and chips for lunch :D )

Thanks for the heads-up Stu. I've requested a place even though I'm in Bedfordshire as Beds Constabulary don't seem to participate.

CJG,

if you dont get a place then try the Met police, they run out of the ace cafe which is not too far from bedford

Did what I thought was a Bikesafe Assessment on Saturday P.M. :nenau Turned out to be something called "theEDGE44" they mark you from 1-5

1, Dangerous
2, Unsatisfactory
3, Satisfactory
4, Good
5, Excellent

I ended up with 18 x 4's & 5 x 3's

I have never had any training just quite a few years riding all sorts of bikes so I was a bit concerned i might be a bit "Old school" for him :o

The instructor critisized me for incorrect lane use on a roundabout, when we were approaching a roundabout there was a car in front going left as we were, i stayed behind the car at a safe distance, then overtook on the exit from the R/bout, the instructor said that i should have ridden around the car before the exit :nenau

He marked me down for alot for that  and said that I would have had alot of 5's without that, all I can think is that he never rides around the Basingstoke area, where indicators mean nothin', and are never to be trusted

Anyhow, I enjoyed the ride, lost him a couple of times, but hey ho.

After an hour and a quarter we pulled over, he said I'd passed and that was that.

Now I payed £65.00 for the pleasure of his company for an hour and a bit, nice bloke and all that but £65.00  When I booked the assessment there was talk of 3-4hrs riding involved so I was feeling a bit cheated VFM wise.

After a phone call, later that evening we decided that assessment part 2 would be nice after Easter, & i look forward to it :thumb

Well recommended, especially If your a "born again" type and have had no training
just make sure you get VFM :thumb

having looked through some of the bikesafe websites this one sounds a bit more of a bargin

The days start at 8.45am and finishes around 4.30pm with lunch included and costs just £30.00 per rider.

guess people in hampshire have more money to spare

i did the ACE CAFE bikesafe a few weeks ago and it was £30.00 for a full day.

We started at 09.00 and finished at 16.15pm.

It also included lunch at the ACE CAFE.

Would i recommend it - YES!!

Value for money - YES!!
