The black engine casing on my GS is looking a little stained/weathered.

Any advice to restore it ?

It's this bit (I know this pic's of a silver one!)

Interesting.....I was just going to post a question re the black finish, on some 1150s.

I have been looking around for an R1150R. Some of these have the black finish.

How durable is it, and is it a pain to keep clean ?

Cheers.......:)

IMHO the black finish is much better than the silver.

If not kept clean the silver just looks dirtier and also seems to suffer more from stone chips and corrosion if not pampered unlike the black finish which just doesn't seem to need care and attention. The black finish does end up more of a dull matt finish than the shiney satin finish is starts off as from new BUT as mentioned above it can be 'brought back' with a bit of TLC or by simply spraying some FS365 or WD40 on it.

Using the bike almost daily I used to get fed up of trying to keep the engine clean so I introduced a regime where I didn't and instead just sprayed more and more WD40 or FS365 on the engine over the build up of dirt. This lasted 2.5 years and then I eventually MUC OFF'd the engine and hey presto nice and clean , nor corrosion.:thumb2
