thanks dave...coming over sometime around June, date not yet confirmed.

June is a good time to visit, but can still be quite cold in the higher areas. This year, there was still snow in the verges on the B500 in June. Thankfully the weather can be very different betwen the East/West sides of the Black Forest, so when one side has sh*te weather, the other is often warm and sunny. Failing that, the French Elsass/Vogesen is just a short hop.

From the top list, I also forgot "Schau ins Land", which is a former racetrack, now part of the normal road structure. However, it's closed to bikes on Weekends and holidays, so plan for a weekday for this stretch.

Ronno,

Since you're almost a local, I'm amazed you even admit to having visited Mummelsee! :mmmm When are you coming over next?

Dave, I've a blitzkreig visit for my Old Man's Birthday in January and am over with my grandson in May. Both with the car. I'll give you a shout for a run in Schwartzwald when I bike over in September :thumb

L124 South from Freiburg is a blast. Hotel Waldblick very good and the owner is more than helpful with local routes. Just make sure you book the right number of nights, unlike the person we entrusted to do it......

My in-laws live in Schirhoffen just over the border and I usually take the push bike with us on family trips and nearly bust myself getting up to the Hornisgrinde! I'm hoping to get over there with a "real" bike next year at some point Dave, so perhaps we could meet up. Is there any off-roading in the area?

Chris,

We're talking Germany here! The law forbids off-road riding, although particularly in this area, there are numerous gravel tacks defined as "roads", although 99,9% are closed except to the Forestry Commission. At least the surfaced roads compensate for this in some way.

There was a great article in one of the freebie motorcycle mags this year entitled "Germany - Enduro Paradise", which made reference to the decreasing state of local roads after the winter ice has done its thing. Since the roads are not resurfaced as often as they really should be, we get the opportunity to ride on the equivalent of unmade roads, and without breaking the law!

Hornisgrinde on a push bike? Let me know when you fancy doing the trip on something with an engine.
